Data scientist requirements, with the quote you would need
Science postings ask for experiments, models, or causal questions. Many resumes are analyst work with a scientist title requested by the ad. Keep the method you used. Do not rename a dashboard as a model.
Examples on this page are fictional composites, not customers and not testimonials.
Often required
The question
Churn, fraud, a forecast, or a ranking. State yours.
The method, plainly
A regression, a rules model, or an experiment. “Machine learning” alone is vague and often unsupported.
The data
What table or log, if you can say so without leaking secrets. Do not invent a dataset size.
How it was used
A feature, a policy, or a report. Shelf-ware is a weaker quote and should sound like shelf-ware.
The language or library you wrote
Python is not R. Cite the one in the resume.
Often preferred, and easy to fake
- An experiment with a design
- A model you monitored after launch
- A paper or a write-up, if real
What a citation looks like
Experimentation
“Designed the holdout for the new dunning email and reported the lift in recovered invoices to finance.”
Design, treatment, and audience are present. The numeric lift is not in this sentence, so it is not added later.
Deep learning
“No sentence.”
A logistic regression is not a neural net. Leave the gap.
The gap people paper over
TensorFlow, Spark, and “production ML” are the prestige stack. If you handed a notebook to an engineer, say that.
Questions
I am an analyst applying to scientist roles.
Quote the analysis. The title gap is real. A tailored resume should not silently promote you.
Can I include coursework models?
Yes, labeled as coursework. Do not place them under an employer.
