Registered nurse requirements, with the quote you would need
Clinical postings are specific: license, unit, and skills like drips, triage, or EMR documentation. This is not a place to generalize. If the resume says med-surg, do not rewrite it as ICU.
Examples on this page are fictional composites, not customers and not testimonials.
Often required
License and location, as written
Do not expand a state or add a compact privilege that is not listed.
Unit or setting
Floor, clinic, home health, or ED. The posting’s unit is not yours unless the resume says so.
Patient population
Adults, pediatrics, oncology. Quote the group you named.
A procedure or responsibility you documented
Meds, assessments, charge duty, or precepting, only from your bullets.
The record system only if named
Epic is not implied by “charting.”
Often preferred, and easy to fake
- A certification already on the resume
- Charge or preceptor experience
- A language used with patients
What a citation looks like
Med-surg
“Staff nurse on a 28-bed medical unit, 2019–2023, including night charge twice a month.”
Unit, dates, and charge duty are evidenced. ICU and Epic are not.
Epic
“No sentence.”
Do not add the hospital’s current EMR. Ask yourself whether you used it, then write that sentence yourself.
The gap people paper over
Certifications (BLS, ACLS, specialty) are binary. If they are expired or unlisted, they stay a gap. Do not backdate them.
Questions
Can I say I am open to any unit?
You can say that in a letter as a preference. You cannot list competencies from units you have not worked.
Is this medical advice or a credentialing opinion?
No. The tool quotes your resume. Licensing decisions belong to the board and the employer.
