Mechanical engineer requirements, with the quote you would need
ME postings name CAD, a product, and a phase: prototype, DFM, or sustaining. School projects count when they are labeled as school projects. They are not years of industry tenure.
Examples on this page are fictional composites, not customers and not testimonials.
Often required
The hardware
A mechanism, a housing, a fixture. Be as specific as the resume already is.
CAD or analysis software you used
SolidWorks is not AutoCAD. Cite the named tool.
A phase of the lifecycle
Concept, prototype, production release, or field failure.
A constraint
Cost, tolerance, heat, or a standard, if written.
A test or a supplier interaction
Only the one you had.
Often preferred, and easy to fake
- GD&T you applied
- A manufacturing handoff
- A failure analysis
What a citation looks like
CAD
“Modeled the bracket in SolidWorks and revised it after the first machine shop quote.”
Tool and a real revision are evidenced. FEA is not mentioned, so it is not added.
FEA
“No sentence.”
A CAD model is not a simulation. Leave FEA unsupported.
The gap people paper over
Licensure (PE, EIT) and specific standards (ISO, ASME) are easy to sprinkle and hard to defend. Quote them only if listed.
Questions
Do internships count toward years?
They count as the dates written. Do not merge them into “five years of ownership” if the resume shows summers.
Can I claim a tool from a single class?
You can quote the class project. Do not describe it as professional release work.
